2/26/06 Duxbury Firefighters quickly struck a second alarm at this house fire on the coldest night of the year so far. It was bitter cold with a temperature of 9° and a wind chill well below 0°. When companies arrived they found heavy fire conditions in the back of the structure. Engine 1 secured a
water source as Ladder 1 with forcible entry tools stretched an attack line. Firefighters on the Ladder Company forced entry on the “B” side of the building and crawled to the back of the structure with the attack line. At this point firefighters had heavy fire rolling over their heads. The fire was in the attic space of the garage and house. Firefighters aggressively attacked the fire, opened up and brought the blaze under control in about 45 minutes.
Firefighters from Kingston and Pembroke came in on the second alarm and assisted in extinguishment and Marshfield covered our station. One firefighter was transported with minor injuries to the Jordan Hospital.
