The Duxbury Firefighters Local-2167 would like to invite you to our annual IAFF/MDA Bowl-A-Thon. Prizes will be awarded to the person that raises the most money, the person that makes the most marks (Strikes and Spares) combined, and to the person that bowls the highest 3 string total. To raise money simply have friends, family members, or co-workers donate any amount, or donate an amount per pin. All money raised will be given to MDA, and credited to the town you work for. Encourage other Firefighters to bowl with you and bring a team. Our area MDA Good Will Ambassador Andrew Warmald will be there to cheer us on. Hope to see you there.

Thank You!
On behalf of the Duxbury Firefighters Local 2167 I would like to thank you for supporting us in raising money for Muscular Dystrophy. This year we raised a record $350.00 by selling shamrocks. Without your help we would not have reached this amazing total. The money raised will help support research towards finding a cure for Muscular Dystrophy. For many years we have come to the businesses of Duxbury for help, and you have always come through for us. Thank you for your help and support.

Sincerely,

John M. Sjostedt III

The Duxbury Firefighters would like to thank the citizens of Duxbury for their support in the "Shamrocks Against Dystrophy" program. With the help of local businesses we were able to raise over $400.00. Bennett’s General store, Hall's corner store, Duxbury Pizza, Exxon, Duxbury Legion, Millbrook Market, Benchwarmer Subs, Dimitri's, and Duxbury General Store all helped make this year one of the best years in the shamrock program history. Without the help of the citizens of Duxbury, and local businesses we would not be able to make this program such a success.

On Sunday March 20, 2005 Duxbury Firefighters, staff, family, and Kingston Firefighters joined together as one team at the Alley Kat Lane bowling alley in Kingston for our second annual Bowl-A-Thon for MDA.  With pledges from family, and friends we were able to raise $823.00 for MDA. A total of 2112 pins were knocked down by participants. Duxbury Firefighter Rob Tripp came in first place for most pins knocked down over 3 strings with 300. Duxbury Fire Department secretary Sue Errasti came in first place for most money raised with $155.00. And Duxbury Firefighter PJ Hussey won first place for most strikes with 2. A fun time was had by all, and we all agree that a lot of practicing needs to take place between now, and next years event. We would also like to thank Doughboy Fire/Police supply Store for donating 2 $25.00 gift certificates as prizes. Thanks to everyone that contributed, and came out to support the Firefighters for MDA.

The Duxbury Firefighters Local #2167 would like to thank the citizens of Duxbury for making this the most successful fundraising year for Muscular Dystrophy in our history. 2004 marks the 50th year firefighters have helped raise money for Muscular Dystrophy. With the generosity of the citizens, and the assistance of local businesses we were able to raise $10,882. Some of the programs that made this year such a success were a bowl-a-thon held last January. Also in march we participated in the shamrock program with the help of Duxbury General Store, Dimitri's, Benchwarmer Subs, Millbrook Market, and the Central Fire Station. Through the year we had coin canisters at Dimitri's,Duxbury General Store, Hall's Corner store, Exxon at Hall's Corner, and Bennett's General store. Our final, and most successful event was the Fill-The-Boot drive. With the assistance of the staff at Duxbury Beach, the Transfer station, Dunkin Donuts, and Osborn's country store, we were able to make this years Fill-The-Boot drive a huge success.

As always the Duxbury Firefighters would like to thank the citizens of Duxbury for the great support that is given when any of the events we participate in become a monumental success. It is our hope that this is the last year we will need to ask for your help in raising money for MDA, but we know we can always count on the support that is given to us. Thank you!!!

MDA

For fifty years firefighters across the United States have been raising money for Muscular Dystrophy, a nuero muscular disease that affects men and woman of all ages. In the 1970's a group of firefighters from Duxbury led by Firefighter David Thomas began organizing programs to raise money for "Jerry's Kids".

In 1982 LT. John Guilderson took over the program, and began organizing events such as "Fill The Boot". This is where firefighters stand at key locations and ask citizens put loose change and bills in the firefighters boot, and try to fill the boot with money. Another successful event LT. Guilderson organized is the "Shamrock" program. This is where businesses sell shamrocks for $1.00 or $5.00 and citizens can write a name, or message on a shamrock.  Over the past 21 years Lt. Guilderson has dedicated an invaluable amount of time, and effort to make the program a huge success in Duxbury.

In September 2003 Lt. Guilderson turned the program over to Firefighter/EMT John Sjostedt who with the assistance of Firefighter/EMT Brian Monahan, and Duxbury local Firefighters 2167 were able to raise $5,846.00. This year with the help of local businesses, and the continued support of Duxbury citizens we hope to raise a record amount of money for 2004.

If anyone has questions about Muscular Dystrophy, or would like to make a donation, please contact Duxbury Firefighter John Sjostedt.
