Pool Renovation Update
March 29, 2010
The Percy Walker Pool project has recently been given a completion schedule by the contractor performing the renovations, Rogan Construction Co. The completion schedule received by the Town last week indicated that the date of substantial completion will be April 19, 2010. By contract the date of final completion must be within 30 days of the date of substantial completion. We have been told by Rogan construction Co. that they intent to be complete on 4/26/2010. Though as noted they do have 30 days after 4/19/10.
That does not mean unfortunately that the pool will be open right after the date of 4/26/10. Once the contractor has completed his punch list the Town of Duxbury has some work to undertake. The Town through a contractor will acid wash the interior of the pool itself, regrout as needed the pool interior shell, and finally after allowing the grout to cure for a period of time, refill the pool by trucking in water.
The Town’s work described above will take approximately 3 weeks. So if everything goes as planned we are hopeful that the facility will be up and running somewhere in the end of May, perhaps sooner. Please continue to monitor our website and other local media for updated information.
Construction update
Last week marked the first time that the contractor has begun to work Saturdays. Much work has been accomplished in the last month and the building is a very busy construction site at the moment. The pool itself continues to have decking placed over it so that contractors can polyurethane the beams, paint the ceiling, hang HVAC conduits and other electrical work that needs to be done over the pool.
Tile work in the locker rooms, bathrooms and shower areas is nearly complete. As of this weekend the men’s area was 90% done.
Piping of the gas from the boiler location located in the basement to the unit on the roof was being done last week.
NSTAR has pulled its wire into the building and the building would have permanent power turned on sometime next week.
Plumbers, electrician, HVAC, painters, tile setters, pipe fitters, telephone workers, NSTAR electricians, etc… are all on site working madly to get the building opened.
Please call 934-7034 of you have any questions.
