Beach Update 5/25/21

Hello sticker holders, I hope this email finds you well.

This email is one I was hoping to avoid sending, but guessed it was happening at some point.

Endangered Species Activity
As I mentioned in my previous email the piping plover activity is in full swing. There are currently 30 pairs on the beach with 27 nests. Both of these figures represent and increase over last year.

A reminder that today is the last day of night driving for over sand vehicles. The crossovers will close starting 5/26 at 8 PM.

I was informed by Duxbury Beach Reservation staff late yesterday that due to nest locations they anticipate that the first crossover will be closed on June 4th.

In addition, due to nest locations they anticipate that the second crossover will be closed on June 11th.

The situation is somewhat fluid as it could change daily due to nest impacts from tides, predators etc…, but I wanted to share with this information with you as soon as I received it from DBR. If anything changes, I will let you know ASAP.

As far as the length of the time the crossovers will be closed that is a hard number to pin down, but I will communicate to you all in near future when I have a clearer picture of the possible length of the closures.

I know that these closures have occurred in past years, but understand that this news is not what you had hoped to receive.
As we draw closer to the potential crossover closures dates , I will reach out again by email to confirm.

Lastly, just a reminder that resident parking lot stickers will be required starting 5/29 – over sand are required year-round.
I hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend.
