DUXBURY BEACH OPERATIONS

BEACH UPDATE – 6/9/21

Hello Duxbury Beach sticker holder. Hope this email finds you well. Please read below some updates and important information that I hope you find useful.

COMMUNICATIONS

Some of you have noted that this year the communication platform from the Town to you, the beach patron, has changed slightly and you would be correct. I wanted to again point out that daily/and sometimes even more frequent – hourly-updates about parking, vehicle limits, restricted driving areas and crossover status are shared via our Twitter page.

Our Twitter account is:  @BeachDuxbury  This is where you need to go when you need daily updated beach updates. This social media platform will provide a flow of information to the beach patron from the Town. We will not be responding to questions via this platform and the site is not monitored 24/7.

If you need to have a question answered please email our Beach Operations Administrator, Ryan Brown at: brown@town.duxbury.ma.us.  Mr. Brown can also be reached at 781-934-7034  extension #2. Please keep in mind that Mr. Brown works a Wednesday through Sunday work schedule.

NORTHERN LOT – non- residents with permit only.

If the vehicle limit is reached for over sand non-resident vehicles, we provide a parking lot with approximately 90 spaces for you to use at no charge.   The lot location is provided to you in an attachment to this email.

The lot available to you is designated by a RED ARROW on the attached map. This lot is located  NORTH of BLAKEMAN’s and their paved parking lots.  For reference Blakeman’s bathhouse is designated on the map by a green arrow.

Please make sure you are going to the correct lot. If you have questions, please ask a Beach Ranger.

In addition, please be mindful not to park in the resident parking lot, which is directly over the bridge.  Non-Residents are prohibited from parking in this lot and you will be ticketed if you park there.

Again, the Northern Lot location is shown on the map provided in an attachment to this email. The lot is available to all non-resident over sand  vehicles with a current sticker, and it is free of charge.

On that note, if you parked in the Northern Lot on Sunday 6/6 and you were charged $20 please contact me directly as that charge was erroneous and you will be refunded. Send me an email at gcushing@town.duxbury.ma.us   for information on how to obtain that refund.

CROSSOVER CLOSURE UPDATE

As I have communicated in the past, crossover #1 is scheduled to close on 6/18 (original date was 6/4).

Crossover #2 is scheduled to close on 6/11.  We will have updated vehicle capacity numbers to you daily on our Twitter page, but as you can imagine with only crossover #1 area open after 6/11 our total number of vehicles allowed over sand will be sharply reduced.   Crossover #3 remains closed.

RESTRICTED AREA DRIVING

There are several sites in the crossover #1 area that are restricted to all vehicle and bike traffic. These driving restrictions are due to endangered species activity.

The restricted areas have twine and rebar fencing. The areas are also are indicated with sawhorses and cones. The areas of restriction go to the water’s edge (no matter the tide) and staff will move the saw horses and cones as tidal conditions merit. Please do not drive in or try to go around these areas, you must stop and turn around.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this important matter!

PERMIT COPIES AND PLACARDS

There are some of you that do not have a hard copy of your beach sticker. There could be several reasons for this. If you have purchased your sticker on line and don’t have it yet, please print out your receipt to show the Beach Ranger and place that receipt on your dashboard. This will prevent the possibility getting a parking ticket.

Some Duxbury resident over sand patrons were given green placards at Town Hall in lieu of a sticker. Please make sure you bring these with you as proof of your purchase and display them on your dashboard so staff know you have a valid permit. Again, we don’t want to write a parking ticket for a patron who has purchased a valid sticker.

QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS

If you are visiting the beach and have a question about anything please speak to our staff. I have been impressed with them to date and they are trained and ready to assist you in any way we can. If they cannot answer your question right then, we will get you the answer and get back to you.

BEACH LIFEGUARDS

Our Town of Duxbury Beach Lifeguards will be on duty full time beginning 6/14. They work 7 days per week, weather permitting from 9-5.

Just like last year we are seeing lion’s mane jellyfish in our waters. Do not touch them, in the water or on the sand, they can still sting even then. If you or a family member do get stung, our lifeguards have a spray bottle of vinegar and this remedy does help with the pain. Please just ask them and they will happily provide the bottle for you to use.

Hope to see you at the beach!
