DUXBURY BEACH OPERATIONS

DUXBURY BEACH UPDATE – 8/19/21

CROSSOVER UPDATE

As of today’s email, crossover 1 and 2 are open from 8 AM to 10 PM. We are going to strive to keep crossovers open until 10 PM each night. We are experiencing, like all businesses, a staffing shortage as our college age staff returns to school, but as of now that is our expectation.

All piping plover chicks on Duxbury Beach have fledged so you will not experience any more temporary road closures due to plover chicks crossing the road.

All pull outs on the back road are back open. Please adhere to the posted 15 MPH speed limit.

Vehicle maximum limits currently stands at; approximately 250 in the crossover 2 area, and 200 in the crossover 1 area. I anticipate this to change a little as we gain some more beachfront when Least Terns chicks fledge.

FIRES

Fires on the front beach OSV area are allowed if they are properly contained. Please make sure you adhere to the beach rules and regs about fires on the beach. Great care should be placed on properly extinguishing your fire. Please make sure it is completely out using sea water.

NORTHERN LOT

This lot will be closed until and unless it is necessary to be open. At present, with the crossovers open we will not open this lot unless the non-resident vehicle limit is reached.

DOGS ON BEACH

A reminder that dogs are not allowed on the front beach directly east of the resident lot. Dogs are allowed, if leashed, on the front beach in the OSV area provided that they stay out of restricted areas and all areas with vegetation.

BEACH LIFEGUARDS

Due to staffing loss, there will come a time in the next week or two where swimming in the resident beach area will be, “Swim At Your Own Risk”.  We will keep you informed by Twitter and by signage at the property.

REPAIRS TO POWDER POINT BRIDGE

As of 9/1 you will begin to see a construction crew mobilize in and around the bridge for repair work. You may experience a lane closure from time to time. The majority of the work will take place under the deck and will not impact traffic. There will be a time when the bridge is closed to allow for a necessary crane operation. We will keep you updated to any and all bridge closures by Twitter, but we expect the total closure of the bridge to be very minimal.

At the risk of boring you and being too verbose I thought I would add a section at the end of these emails that you might find informative:

DID YOU KNOW??

The Town of Duxbury does not own Duxbury Beach. The beach is owned by the Duxbury Beach Reservation, Inc., a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. The Town of Duxbury leases parts of the property, not including the area commonly referred to as Blakeman’s.

Hope to see you at the beach!
