DUXBURY BEACH OPERATIONS

BEACH UPDATE - 8/26/21

CROSSOVER STATUS – PARKING LOT STATUS

As of today’s email, the front beach is open to the maximum of 500 over sand vehicles. As per past practice this breaks down into 250 resident and 250 non-resident vehicles. Crossovers will be open each day from 8 AM to 10 PM.
We are experiencing some issues with fires. Please remember they must be contained and please put them out fully. We are arriving the following day to several smoldering from the prior night.

BEACH ROAD INFORMATION

All pullouts along the beach road are open. You must possess a valid permit to park in these areas. The speed limit on the beach road is 15 MPH.

LABOR DAY BONFIRE AND BEACH PARTY

The date of this year’s event is Saturday, 9/4. Music will be provided by local band The Waves, who will play from 6-10PM on the front beach, north of the access ramp.

The bonfire will be located south of the resident beach and north of the first crossover. The bonfire is planning to be lit at 7:30, weather permitting. We ask that you keep your children behind the restricted perimeter of the bonfire at all times!

Between the hours of 8:30 and 10 PM, the road between the resident lot and Blakeman’s will be closed at times to allow for pedestrians to walk back to their vehicles. Access to and from Gurnet/Saquish during this time will be allowed via the Powder Point Bridge.

Parking in the resident lot for this event will be for Duxbury Residents only! Current resident lot stickers will suffice, as will proof of residency. There will be no access to park in this lot for non -residents.

Any non-residents with stickers will be directed to park on the beach via the crossovers, or at Blakeman’s overflow lot. Un- authorized vehicles in the resident lot will be ticketed.

Crossovers will close on 9/4 shortly after 10PM but absolutely no later than 10:30- 10:45 PM. Please exit the crossovers that night in a timely fashion.

BEACH LIFEGUARDS

Saturday 8/28, will be the final day of Town of Duxbury beach lifeguard coverage. The area east of the resident lot will be “SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK” thereafter. Please use caution when swimming and never swim alone.

POWDER POINT BRIDGE

Repairs to the Powder Point Bridge will commence on 9/1. There may be slight delays and an occasional lane closure from time to time. We expect a total shutdown to be very, very minimal and will alert you to such via our Twitter account.

DID YOU KNOW?

Town of Duxbury Beach Operations is a division of the Recreation Department. Beach Operations now has a full time Beach Operations Administrator; Ryan Brown, 4 Lead Beach Rangers, 4 beach lifeguards and dozens of Beach Rangers on staff.
Equipment wise, Beach Operations has a Chevy truck (inherited from the Harbormasters’ Department), a Chevy Tahoe (inherited from the Fire Department), 2 ATV’s and 2 UTV’s. We are looking into acquiring several off-road bicycles next year to enhance our operation.  Although the off season will see a large reduction in staffing hours, there will be some staff on duty at the beach year-round performing a wide variety of tasks.

Hope to see you at the beach!
