Town of Duxbury - Beach Operations - Beach Update - 8/31/2021

DUXBURY BEACH OPERATIONS

BEACH UPDATE – 8/31/21

CROSSOVERS/LOTS/ROAD

No change in status here. Over- sand vehicles is at the maximum allowed limit of 500 vehicles, with a 250/250 split between residents and non- residents.

Crossovers and resident lot open 8am to 10pm. Pull outs along back road are open to current sticker holders.

A reminder that the speed limit on the back road is 15 MPH.

BEACH PARTY AND BONFIRE

This event is slated to be held on 9/4 rain or shine. The local band, The Waves, will play 6-10pm on the front beach. The bonfire located south of the resident beach, oceanside, will be lit somewhere around 7:30pm, weather permitting.

A reminder that the road from the resident lot to Blakeman’s will be closed from time to time from 8-10:00pm, to allow pedestrians to get back to their vehicles. Powder Point Bridge will be available for Gurnet/Saquish traffic during these closures.

Parking in the resident lot that day will be for Duxbury residents only. A current sticker or proof of residency is required. Non -residents with a permit must access the beach via crossovers, or the overflow lot.

SWIM AT OWN RISK

Town of Duxbury beach lifeguards are not on duty currently. This means that the resident beach immediately east of the resident lot is now operating as “Swim at Your Own Risk”. Please take care to swim close to shore, avoid seals and do not swim alone.

POST LABOR DAY OPERATIONS

Beach Operations staff will be on duty 7 days per week after Labor Day. As in the past the Town will not be checking resident parking lot stickers at all hours of the day, though current stickers are always required to park in this lot.

Valid over sand stickers are required year-round and vehicles without a current sticker parked on the front beach will be ticketed.

POWDER POINT BRIDGE REPAIRS

A reminder that repairs to our well-loved bridge will begin on 9/1. As I have mentioned in a past email this work may warrant periodic lane closures. There may be work that from time to time requires a complete shut down but we expect those to be minimal. We will alert you via Twitter when we have notice of the above scenarios.

SUGGESTIONS? /COMMENTS?

As we move through our first summer managing Beach Operations, we would like to hear from you about your experience at the beach these past few months. If you have the notion, please email our Beach Operations Administrator – Ryan Brown with your thoughts.

How can we improve? What would you like to see done differently and/or better at the beach? How would you rate your interactions with staff this past season etc… We may send out a survey on this topic but if we get enough responses, we can skip it too. Thanks in advance for helping us with this task.

Ryan’s email is: Brown@town.duxbury.ma.us

DID YOU KNOW?

Not to end on a “crappy” note but….

Did you know that the past few years the Town of Duxbury has spent over $26,000 per season to provide patrons with port – a- pottys at the beach?  The contract requires the vendor to service them daily. (We had to stay on top of them on this point this season) I recall many years ago that we did not have port -a - pottys at the beach at all. How could that be? Times have certainly changed in that area on the beach, to the better, I think! These units will remain on property until about mid-October.

Hope to see you at the beach!
