Town of Duxbury - Beach Operations - Beach Update - 9/9/2021

DUXBURY BEACH OPERATIONS

BEACH UPDATE – SEPTEMBER  9, 2021

OFF SEASON CROSSOVER AND LOT STATUS

Starting Monday 9/13 the crossovers and resident lot will be open 8 AM to sunset Monday through Thursday.  Friday through Sunday the crossovers and lot will be open 8AM to a 10PM. These hours will be in effect through September. We will re-evaluate at end of September and adjust hours accordingly, but stay tuned for that at months end.

Beach Operations, as has been past practice, will not be checking resident parking lot stickers after Labor Day. Over sand permits are required year-round and we will be enforcing this regulation. Beach Operations staff will be on duty daily, seven days a week, enforcing beach rules and patrolling the property.

DOGS

Regulations regarding dogs and where you can walk them change some on 9/15. Please refer to the beach rules and regulations pamphlet on this topic. One change effective 9/15 is dogs are allowed on the front beach directly east of the resident lot starting 9/15. Please remember:

Dogs/owners must have a permit issued by the Town Clerk to walk dogs at Duxbury Beach and all Duxbury Conservation Land.

Dogs must be leashed at all times.

Please keep your pets out of all vegetation.

Please clean up after your pets.

BEACH PARTY AND BONFIRE

I wanted to say thanks to all who attended the event last weekend. We estimated that there were between 4,000 and 5,000 people at the party.  With all those folks in attendance we are not aware of any problems/issues caused by patrons behaving improperly. I think this is just awesome!

Thanks to all the Departments that made this a successful event and thanks to the organizers, who did a great job!

DID YOU KNOW?

That our well-loved Powder Point Bridge will soon have repairs done. Our bridge was once listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest and longest wooden bridge in the world.  The bridge was damaged by fire and rebuilt in the 80’s, and then lost its status as the longest in the world.

Speed limit on the bridge is 10 MPH. I hate to admit it, but I am old enough to remember when the bridge was entirely closed for repairs.  We all had to drive in from Gurnet Road back then to get to the beach. These current repairs will not require that type of shut down though we may experience periodic lane closures. The Department of Public Works has indicated that there will be a few times the entire bridge is closed but this full closure will be very minimal. We will alert patrons of these closures via our Twitter account.

Hope to see you at the beach!
