Town of Duxbury Beach Operations

Hello to all our sticker/permit holders at Duxbury Beach. I hope this email finds you well. As you may have heard the Town of Duxbury has transitioned the beach operations division this year from the Duxbury Police Department to the Duxbury Recreation Department.

Our goal is to help you have the best possible experience on the beach as possible while adhering to our rules and regulations. With that in mind I will endeavor to send an email to you from time to time concerning beach related topics. I hope you will find these helpful, and at least recognize that we will try hard to communicate to you our customer on a variety of topics. Please excuse the length of this first email as I have several items for your perusal.

CROSSOVER TIMES

As of 5/1/21 we will be planning to have at least 1 crossover open from 8:30 AM to 9PM, seven days a week. The end time means that you and your vehicle must be off the beach and on the beach road by that time. These times, as always are subject to tide, weather and of course endangered species activity.

Because these times can and will fluctuate some as the season progresses, we strongly suggest you follow us on Twitter- that address is @BeachDuxbury. This is the official Town of Duxbury Beach Operations twitter and we will provide daily information on this account.

OVERSAND PERMITS

This is a reminder that valid over sand permits are required YEAR-ROUND. Staff will be checking these permits when on duty. As you are receiving this email you already have a valid permit. But you can help us out by spreading the word. No valid permit, no access to the over sand portion of the beach.

RESIDENT PARKING LOT

The resident parking lots on the east end of Powder Point Bridge requires a valid permit. Please make sure it is affixed as required. If you have not received the permit yet, but have your receipt please bring it with you. As in the past we will strictly enforce this come Memorial Day weekend.

DOGS

April 1st is the day when dog walking rules and regs change. Please go to the Beach Operations website Duxbury Beach Operations | Duxbury MA and click on the “Special Dog Regulations” link for the updated rules and regulations on dog walking at the beach. All dogs are required (owners) to have a permit issues by the Town Clerk to access Duxbury Beach or Town Conservation areas.

BEACH OPERATIONS ADMINISTRATOR

Part of the Town’s commitment to create a new Beach Operations division was to a hire a full time Beach Operations Administrator. The Town hired Ryan Brown to fill this role. Ryan comes with loads of experience from Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and we are excited to have him on board.

Ryan’s office phone is 781-934-7034 ext 2. Just so you know he is working a Wednesday to Sunday shift and I hope you will stop by at the beach and say hello to him.

ENDANGERED SPECIES

As you know Duxbury Beach is home to several endangered species and we are subject to the laws that protect them. Please be mindful of any and all restrictions that we are required to follow. At the present there are 19 pairs at the beach and soon nests will be established. We will keep you posted as to how that impacts our access for recreation as it has in past years.

Finally, it is my hope and intention that working together with the owners of the Beach, Duxbury Beach Reservation, and all of you we can make this an enjoyable beach season. We all are keenly aware that in these current times we need a place to relax and decompress!

Hoping I see you at the best beach around!
