Growing Together

An equity, allyship, and anti-oppression initiative from the DFL

What is the goal of this initiative?

We believe that libraries are for everyone, and we want to ensure that we are creating a safe space for all library patrons and community members. This initiative will allow us to work together as a community to learn about equity and inclusion. By engaging with intersectional resources and programs, we can educate ourselves on how to be better allies to others. This initiative aims to build upon our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policy by offering a series of programs, discussions, and resources on how to stand against racism, ageism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, xenophobia, and other societal issues that harm marginalized peoples. We are committed to breaking down barriers that prevent BIPOC and other marginalized identities from accessing knowledge, resources, and information.

What will be offered through this initiative?

We will be partnering with many local nonprofits and organizations in the area to offer educational resources and programs. We hope these programs, along with our collection of diverse library materials, will allow us to create spaces for discussions about anti-oppression and decentering whiteness. We encourage community members to join us as we teach and learn together with programs for a variety of ages.
