Sustainable Climate Adaptation

Welcome to Duxbury's Climate Resiliency Page!

The Town of Duxbury is looking carefully at the possible long and short-range impacts of climate change locally, and potential strategies for sustainability and resiliency.

Currently underway!

Waterfront Improvements and Coastal Resiliency Feasibility Study

In 2023, the Town of Duxbury and Duxbury Bay Maritime School (DBMS) were awarded a $196,000 grant from the Seaport Economic Council to conduct a feasibility study to explore options toward achieving coastal resiliency relative to future climate change and sea level rise.  The study area focuses on the Town of Duxbury and DBMS waterfront facilities in Snug Harbor and includes Mattakeesett Court and the surrounding area. The study will identify potential improvements to current facility operations, as well as upgrades to waterfront and roadway infrastructure.

The Duxbury Beach Reservation, Inc. is a local non-profit that owns Duxbury Beach.  This organization works to preserve the barrier beach which shelters Duxbury from the open ocean, and has undertaken several beach nourishment and dune preservation activities that also enhance the safety of Snug Harbor and Duxbury Bay by preserving this resource.
