Little Living & Small Commercial Duxbury Neighborhoods

Welcome to the Little Living and Duxbury Commercial Neighborhoods Exploration Page!

The Planning Department, through the Duxbury Senior Center, hosted small Envision Duxbury Neighborhood discussions monthly on Tuesday evenings via Zoom in 2020, about concepts and ideas related to housing alternatives and friendly streetscapes, and ways to enhance the social fabric in our community in our built environment in keeping with the new Envision Duxbury comprehensive plan. An overview of the key related concepts in the plan from our kickoff meeting is downloadable here.

The Duxbury Planning Department participated with MAPC, and the towns of Scituate, Hingham, Norwell, and Cohassett, to explore alternative living solutions that fit well into the fabric of our south shore towns. The first outreach meeting was in the fall of 2019, click here to view the PowerPoint presentation. Click here to view the final report "Little to Middle Housing Options". The first "Little Living" report, created by MAPC in partnership with the towns of Foxborough, Medfield, Medway, Sherborn, and Stoughton, can be viewed here.

Friendly spring challenge 2021:  Virtually, or with a friend, head out to these Massachusetts neighborhoods (click here for handout) and consider your reactions to the questions included - what do you like and dislike about what you see in these places?

This handout was developed by Harriman for Duxbury.  Harriman is a consulting firm hired by Duxbury through a competitive Downtown Initiatives Grant award and with some seed money from Town Meeting to follow up on the Hall's Corner studies done in 2014.  Harriman's efforts were spearheaded by Steve Cecil, now retired, who has led local planning efforts by DBMS and the Duxbury Yacht Club - as districts that are similar in character to the community we have here in Duxbury.  Harriman, although it has now closed shop, will be hosting a workshop to help us bring these ideas into focus later this year, and we hope to build these ideas into our vision for Hall's Corner and other small business areas in the community.
