Dog Licenses

In accordance with the provisions of MGL Ch. 140, § 137 & 137A and the Town of Duxbury General Bylaws, all dogs 6 months of age and older must have a valid rabies vaccination and be licensed with the Town. Dog Licenses are annual licenses. The license period runs from January 1st to December 31st.

 

A LATE FEE OF $25 PER DOG, in addition to the license fee, will be assessed on April 1st as approved by the Board of Selectmen in Novmber 2019.  

Late fees do not apply for new residents or newly acquired dogs.  Please contact the Town Clerk's office for more information.

Licenses are available through the Town Clerk's Office and may be purchased in the following ways:

1)  TOWN CLERK’S OFFICE: during regular business hours.

2)  BY MAIL: send your application, payment and self-addressed stamped envelope.  

3)  DROP BOX: drop your application in the box at the rear of Town Hall with payment and self-addressed stamped envelope

4)  ONLINE: See the Town Clerk’s Payment Center on the town’s website (www.town.duxbury.ma.us ).  Order licenses using credit card, debit card or check.   http://unipaygold.unibank.com/customerinfo.aspx

FEES:

Male neutered or Female spayed                        $12.00

Male not neutered or Female not spayed            $17.00

**Dog licenses are free of charge to pet owners 70 years of age and older.  If you are 70 or older, please send an email to Kelley@town.duxbury.ma.us and you will receive your license in the mail. 

**If you no longer own your pet, please send an email to Kelley@town.duxbury.ma.us and we will update your reccord.

KENNELS:

Kennels, both Personal (4+ dogs) and Commercial, must be inspected by the Animal Control Officer prior to issuance of the annual license.  Kennel license fees range from $40 - $100 depending on the type of kennel and number of dogs.

FAILURE TO LICENSE by March 31st - Please note that a “License Late Fee” of $25 (twenty-five dollars) per dog, in addition to the license fee, will be imposed as of April 1st following to December 31st for any overdue license.  Failure to license by May 1st will automatically result in a non-criminal fine of not less than $50 (fifty dollars) imposed by the Town of Duxbury with a citation mailed to any dog owner who does not license their dog as per MGL Ch. 140, Sec 141. 

**No late fee will be charged for new dogs or new residents licensing for the first time.

UNPAID BALANCES OF LICENSE FEES, LATE FEES, AND FINES ARE CARRIED FORWARD.

If you move from Duxbury or you no longer have a dog, you must notify the Town Clerk's Office to update your account and avoid future charges.
