Duxbury Beach Closed Due To COVID-19 Pandemic

TOWN OF DUXBURY - PRESS RELEASE
Duxbury Beach Closed Due To COVID-19 Pandemic
April 2, 2020

Due to the COVID-19 public health crisis, Duxbury Beach, all beach-related parking areas and vehicular and pedestrian access to the Powder Point Bridge are closed to the public effective immediately, until further notice.

Further, the sale of beach stickers has been suspended until further notice and any stickers that may have been purchased have not been charged to the purchasers account.

Considerable thought has gone into arriving at this determination and by closing the beach, the Town of Duxbury is taking a proactive step in helping reduce the spread of this virus.  We are all aware that there is a significantly increased risk to the health and safety of others when large groups gather and the Town has no means of controlling the social distancing behaviors of beach patrons once they arrive.

The closure Duxbury Beach is not the preferred option but it is absolutely necessary since protecting public health is paramount which means adhering to social distancing and restricting access to public places where groups might gather.  Closing Duxbury Beach will put pressure on Duxbury’s other outdoor areas such as recreational fields and numerous walking trails which still remain open at this point, it is absolutely critical that visitors to these areas that common sense be used and to PLEASE TAKE THIS HEALTH PANDEMIC SERIOUSLY.

While these other outdoor recreational areas remain open at this time, this is a situation that the Town of Duxbury will be monitoring very closely.  We are strongly urging that visitors to these areas avoid them if they are crowded and maintain social distancing with a separation of at least 6’ feet between individuals on all paths and trails.  To ensure adequate social distancing and to avoid large groups from congregating, people should think twice before getting their car and driving somewhere to recreate.  During the weeks ahead, the Town of Duxbury urges people to consider recreating closer to home and we encourage limiting your time outdoors to local outings such in yards or during a walk.

This closure is temporary and is part of all of us having to adjust to a "new normal" practically every day.

PLEASE REMEMBER - PHYSICAL DISTANCING IS ABSOLUTLEY ESSENTIAL AND EVERY CHOICE YOU MAKE COULD SAVE A LIFE OR RISK ONE.
