Planning Department

The Planning Department is staffed by the Planning Director and Principal Assistant, serving as the professional and administrative staff for the seven member elected Planning Board and reporting directly to the Town Manager. The Planning Department works with the community to do long-range planning and implementation on a broad range of issues as described in the Envision Duxbury Comprehensive Plan and Open Space and Recreation Plan.  The Planning Department also assists prospective applicants with the development permitting process; administers subdivision control, responds to flood map inquiries, serves as the floodplain administrator responding to sea level rise and climate resiliency adaptation, coordinates zoning updates consistent with the Planning Board's guidelines and directives, does GIS mapping for town-related projects and creates and maintains data layers relative to land use, and coordinates throughout the year with the Facilities Department on the Green Communities Program.  Direct assistance is provided to the Local Historic District Commission, Economic Advisory Committee, Alternative Energy Committee, Sea Wall Committee, and Highway Safety Committee, as well on an as-needed basis to other committees, throughout the year.
