The Duxbury Council on Aging could not accomplish its work without the assistance of its many dedicated volunteers. Their knowledge, compassion, and commitment have enabled us to expand services at the Duxbury Senior Center and in the community. They have enabled us to implement innovative programs that have been recognized locally and nationally such as assisting in our Social Day Program for clients with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease, or by serving on our Friends’ board or the Council on Aging Board or with our Lifelong Learning steering committee.

The knowledge that is shared, the time that is spent, the care that is given has made the Duxbury Senior Center a focal point in the community.

If you would like to learn more about the Duxbury Council on Aging, its programs or our many volunteer opportunities, please contact our Volunteer Manager at (781) 934-5774 ext. 5731.

Town of Duxbury Senior Property Tax Work-Off Program

The purpose of the Property Tax Work-Off Program is to allow qualified citizens to perform community service for the Town of Duxbury in various departments in order to receive an abatement on the property tax for the home in which they reside. The program also enhances municipal services by utilizing the skills of seniors (65+) in various departments throughout the town.

The Senior Tax Work Off Program will be open for qualified applicants as of October 1, 2022 on a rolling basis until April 2023.  If you are 65 years old as of July 1st, own your own home in Duxbury, and have been a resident of MA for the last five years you may be eligible to apply.

The Select Board voted at their meeting on 2/13/2023 to remove the income guidelines to reduce barriers to participation for the Senior Tax Work Off Program.  If you are interested in working 67 hours in one or more departments in Town assisting staff for a $1,000 reduction on your tax bill (minus federal income tax), please consider applying for the program between now and April 1, 2023, when the application closes for this fiscal year.

Please remember the requirements for participation include:

  • Applicant must be age 65 as of July 1.
  • Must own or occupy their home as the primary domicile.
  • The applicant must have been a resident of Massachusetts for the proceeding five years.
  • If the property is in a trust, a copy of the trust documents showing that the applicant is a Trustee of the Trust must be submitted with the application.  If the applicant is not a Trustee of the Trust he/she are not eligible to participate in this program.
