TOWN OF DUXBURY – BEACH OPERATIONS
BEACH UPDATE – 4/28/22

Hello Duxbury Beach patron/sticker holder. I hope this email finds you well. Below please find some topics for your consideration relating to the beach.

STICKER SALES
The 2021 beach sticker expired 3/31/22. A new sticker for residents and non-residents is now required. You may purchase your sticker in person at the Duxbury Town Hall – Treasurer Department, or by online purchase at: https://epay.cityhallsystems.com/selection

Over-sand stickers are required year-round and must be current. Beach Rangers will be writing citations for violations and people not adhering the regulations can be fined up to $500 per violation, so please get your sticker now.

POWDER POINT BRIDGE SPEED LIMIT
The speed limit on the Powder Point Bridge is 10 MPH. Please adhere to this. Keeping your speed to 10 MPH helps reduce harmful impacts to our historic wooden bridge.  The Duxbury Police Department has graciously stationed a digital message board at the west end of the bridge to remind all drivers of this important matter.

THREATENED SPECIES UPDATE
Piping Plovers are on site and nests are beginning to be established and even some eggs are being laid. With this yearly occurrence comes varying degrees of regulations impacting our use of the beach. Please adhere to all directives by on site Beach Rangers as the situation can change daily. Reminder that the speed limit on the back road is 15 MPH unless otherwise noted.

Speaking of the back road, several gravel “speed bumps” were installed as traffic calming measures in the off season. In the near future there will be other speed bumps installed on the back road. These new speed bumps will be similar in nature to the ones you drive over at the end of the bridge at the sticker checkpoint. Please use caution as you traverse the back road and encounter these items.

DOGS ON THE BEACH
The Town of Duxbury requires that all dogs/owners have a permit to walk their dogs on Duxbury Beach or Town owned Conservation land. Permits are obtained through the Town Clerks office at the Duxbury Town Hall, or online at: https://unipaygold.unibank.com/customerinfo.aspx.

As of April 1st, each year, the regulations for dog walking changes some as they relate to the area where dogs are not allowed. Dogs are currently prohibited from the bayside north of the Powder Point Bridge. Dogs are prohibited from the front beach east of the resident parking lot. There are signs all over the property alerting patrons to this requirement.

Dogs are currently allowed on the bayside south of the Powder Point Bridge and on the over sand / crossover section though, THEY MUST BE LEASHED AT ALL TIMES, and they must adhere to keeping out of restricted areas.

Excuse my rant but we are lucky to have dogs allowed at all on the property. Many beaches do not allow dogs on their property at all, ever. Please, please, please I am imploring all to adhere to these regulations. We risk having our four-legged friends lose their privileges if their owners cannot comply.

GROUPS ON DUXBURY BEACH
From time to time various groups request to use Duxbury Beach property for a variety of reasons, weddings, family reunions, etc…  There is an application process for these types of uses that is required to be filled out with the Duxbury Beach Reservation Inc., as a first step.

A link to this application will soon be uploaded to the Duxbury Beach Operations website.   Please check for this application beginning next week at: https://www.town.duxbury.ma.us/beach-operations.

Hope to see you at the beach!
