The Town Clerk's Office provides the following services:

Public Record Requests (Online Portal)

Business Certificates (DBA = Doing Business As)

  • A Business Certificate is not a license to do business in the town.  Its purpose is primarily for consumer protection and public information purposes.  Additional licenses/permits issued by other Town Departments or State Agencies may be required in order to do business. 
  • In conformity with the Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 110 Section 5, and the Amended Acts of 1985, Chapter 337; Under Chapter 110, Section 6, a Business Certificate is not required if a Corporation is doing business in its true corporate name, or if a partnership is doing business under any title which includes the true surname of any partner.

Dogs Licenses & Walking Permits

  • General Law, Part I, Title XX, Chapter 140, Section 137A - The owner or keeper of a dog over the age of 6 months shall obtain a license for the dog. The registering, numbering, describing and licensing of a dog shall be conducted in the office of the licensing authority in the city or town in which the dog is kept. The Town of Duxbury By-Law requires all dogs to be licensed by April 1st of each year.
  • New or Renewal Licenses can be purchased in the Town Clerk’s Office, by mail or online: https://unipaygold.unibank.com/customerinfo.aspx . If you are licensing a new dog online, please email us the Rabies Certificate(s) in order to not incur a late fee.
  • Dog owners 70 years of age and older may receive dog licenses and walking permits free of charge. Please reach out to our office and we will happily send you the tag(s).
  • Residents and Non-Residents may purchase Beach / Walking Permits in the Town Clerk’s Office, by mail or online: https://unipaygold.unibank.com/customerinfo.aspx.  Non-residents must include proof of current dog licensing in your community.

Marriage Licenses

  • We have a Justice of the Peace on staff - an appointment is required.
  • Both parties must appear together and proof of age is required. 
  • No appointment necessary.

Vital Record Requests

  • Certified copies of Birth, Death and Marriages certificates (Please contact the Town Clerk's Office to ensure we have your vital record on file)
  • The fee for each certified copy is $10.00. Payment can be made in the Town Clerk’s Office, by mail or online: https://unipaygold.unibank.com/customerinfo.aspx

Annual Town Meeting / Special Town Meetings

  • The Annual Town Meeting will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, beginning at 9am in the Duxbury Performing Arts Center (PAC) located at 73 Alden Street.

Annual Town Election

The Annual Town Election will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 8am to 8pm in the Timothy J. Steele Athletic Building (Field House) located at 130 Saint George Street.

Oath of Office for Board and Committee Members

  • No appointment necessary.
