Duxbury Beach Operations Update
7/1/21

Hello all sticker holders for Duxbury Beach. Hope this email finds you well and that you made it through the recent heat wave with no issues. Below please find an update concerning Duxbury Beach and various operations and information.

Piping Plover Activity

As of today’s email, we have 32 Piping Plover pairs on the beach. There are 16 nests and we have had one nest fledge. We still have many nests where we await hatching. This will mean we will experience some road closures as the chick’s cross back and forth to feed. Please be patient and comply with directives from the bird monitors during these closures.

Due to the above the crossovers will remain closed. As soon as I have an idea of when they may open, I will pass that information along pronto.

If you are in and around the resident lot you will see some low barriers installed, please step over these and do not move them. As previously discussed, they are there to stop chicks from going through the lot to access the bayside. The Northern most pedestrian pathway in the resident remains closed at this time.

Communications

Another reminder that you can find up to date and daily information via Twitter, our account is    @BeachDuxbury. If you need a question answered about Beach Operations please email Ryan Brown, Beach Operations Administer at  brown@town.duxbury.ma.us  , Ryan can also be reached at 781-934-7034  ext 2.

We do not use Twitter as a platform to answer questions and the site is not monitored 24/7.

Lion's Mane Jellyfish

We continue to see these creatures in the bay and the ocean. Avoid them in the water and on the beach. Even out of the water they can sting you. If you get stung, Town of Duxbury Beach Lifeguards have spray bottles of distilled white vinegar for you to use. We also have bottles of this at the shack at the end of the bridge and in each of our Beach Operations vehicles.

Northern Lot

This lot is for current stickered Non-resident vehicles and has approximately 90 spots available. We have re-located two more porta potty units to this lot bringing the total to three.

Please remember that as of today’s date DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THIS AREA. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE YOUR DOGS AT HOME. The lot is filling quickly on certain days so make sure you check Twitter for updates regarding availability of open spots.

The Northern Lot is open seven days a week 8-8.

ROAD RACE/PARADE – SATURDAY JULY 3rd

The annual July 4th road race in Duxbury will be held this year on July 3rd, as will the annual parade. Access to the Powder Point bridge will be restricted starting around 8 am on Saturday July, 3rd. Please access and EXIT the beach via RTE 139/Gurnet road through Marshfield that day between the hours of 8am-3pm. Residents of Gurnet/Saquish will need to use the Marshfield entrance and exit as the bridge will be closed to traffic.

Lastly, I wanted to thank those of you who have taken the time to reach out with positive comments about our staff and Beach Operations. These comments are much appreciated!  Happy Fourth!
