Duxbury Town Meeting will be occurring on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. and Monday, March 16, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.

Town Meeting will be occurring on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. and Monday, March 16, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.

During a conference call with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MADPH) on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, the Town was advised that the Governor’s emergency declaration is not a global cancellation for all events, state-wide.  The MADPH stated that there are no specific guidelines on the number of participants at a public event nor is there any guidance on cancellations regarding the nature of meetings and venues.

MADPH has recommended maintaining a safe distance from one another to avoid droplet transmission from one person to the next.   Thankfully, the Performing Arts Center and overflow auxiliary seating areas have the capacity to accommodate modified seating arrangements which will allow the Town to require that persons attending Town Meeting sit in every other seat and in every other row.

Further, in order to help limit any potential exposure risks, we will not be using hand-held electronic devices for voting nor will lunch be provided.

Since virtual or remote participation are not an option for Town Meeting, and there are certain legal requirements to be met during Town Meeting, the Town has sought to strike a balance with these factors in mind while maintaining concern for the health of our residents.
