Duxbury Beach Access Update

August 31, 2023

The following is a Press Release from the Duxbury 4th of July Activities Committee:

“Press Release

Duxbury Labor Day Beach Party and Bonfire

The Duxbury July 4th Activities Committee invites all Duxbury residents to the annual Labor Day Beach Party and Bonfire. On Saturday, September 2nd, from 4pm-10pm, bring the family and friends for a celebration of the end(??) of summer. The entertainment will feature the following:

4-6pm    Ian Richardson

6-10pm   The Waves

7:30pm  Bonfire Lighting

Blakeman’s will have a pop-up food tent and the Cornerstone Mason’s Lodge will be serving ice cream sundaes. Feel free to bring your own beach picnic if that is preferred.

Please be aware that we expect the resident parking lot and all available over sand access to fill early in the afternoon. Overflow resident vehicles will be able to park at Duxbury Beach Park for no fee. Non-Resident over sand vehicles will be able to park at the usual north lot if the over sand areas have reached their capacity. For the safety of pedestrians who have parked at Duxbury Beach Park, the dirt road between the resident lot and Duxbury Beach Park will be lit and travel on the road may be restricted to one lane as the party winds down.

To ensure a safe event, we ask that you:

DO NOT allow children to climb on the bonfire structure;

Ensure your children have a prearranged meeting place should you get separated;

If any emergency or medical issue should arise, call 911 or got to the public safety staging area next to the guard shack.

We hope you all have a wonderful time at this family-oriented event!

PLEASE BE AWARE:

There will be areas in the Resident Lot that will be blocked off for Essential Personnel vehicles: the small lot behind The Shack and the northwest corner of the dirt parking lot.

The Resident Parking Lot will be open between the hours of 8:00AM and 11:00PM Friday - Sunday. Weekday hours: 8AM to 10PM.
The non- resident parking lot will be open to overflow parking.

The posted speed limit on beach property is now back to 15MPH everywhere.

All crossovers allow LEASHED dogs only where vehicles are allowed and all dog rules apply.

Dog Areas and Sensitive Wildlife Areas

Dogs are again allowed on leash on the bayside area, directly behind the Ranger shack. Leashed dogs are also allowed on all Crossovers. Dogs are not allowed on the front resident ocean side beach or the bayside north of the bridge until September 16th.

Sensitive Wildlife Areas are in effect in several places on the beach. While beach goers are invited to set up and enjoy these areas, it is with sensitivity to the chicks that are also using the beach. Within these areas, we ask that you do not drive, ride a bike, or play any large recreational games. There are several areas where full recreational activity is allowed.

CROSSOVER ACCESS PROCEDURE

Crossovers will open at 8:00 a.m. and vehicles MUST line up behind the gate in the Resident Lot.  Only those vehicle permit holders lined up behind the gate in the resident lot will be eligible for Crossover access. Please do not drive down the back road and line up by the crossover. This will forfeit your spot in line and you will have to go to the end of the line in the Resident Lot.
