DUXBURY BEACH OPERATIONS

BEACH UPDATE - 7/28/22

Hello Beach patrons,

Below please find some up to date information about crossover access.

Due to changes in avian activity at the beach we are hopeful to be able to open some over sand parking spaces at Crossover #3. Please make sure you read all the information in this email carefully as the situation is going to require strict adherence and cooperation in order to make this successful.

#1. Crossover #3

We will be allowing access to 44 over sand vehicles at Crossover #3. This will break down into 22 resident and 22 non-resident vehicles.

We anticipate this opening to start on Friday, July 29th. Beach Rangers will escort those 44 vehicles from the resident parking lot starting at approximately 8am. As in the past please form a line of vehicles in the resident parking lot and a beach ranger will escort you down the road to crossover #3. Again, due to space limitation we will only be allowing 44 vehicles. Due to regulations there will be no dogs allowed at the Crossover #3 site. Please do not bring your dogs with you, as you will be denied access.

In addition, the area at Crossover #3 is full of pea stone. As you know, pea stone is extremely difficult to navigate through. Therefore, Beach Operations will only be allowing 4WD vehicles to access this area. AWD vehicles will NOT be allowed to access this area. Also, we highly recommend you air down your tire pressure to avoid getting stuck. Stuck vehicles are of major concern at Crossover #3 as there is only space for one vehicle at a time to enter the beach or exit the beach. The effect of a stuck vehicle at Crossover #3 will effectively shut down access at that point until the vehicle can be removed and/or towed out, which can take hours.

Crossover #3 will have restrictions as to where vehicles and pedestrians may travel. Please adhere to all signage, fencing, cones, and directives from Beach Rangers etc… and stay within the allowed area.

Once those 44 vehicles are on site at the 3rd Crossover we anticipate that they will remain on the beach for a great portion of the day. Beach Rangers will only be allowing additional vehicles out to Crossover #3 as vehicles on the beach exit. We hope this information helps illustrate the importance of arriving early since access is provided on a first come first serve basis.

Please monitor our Twitter account, @BeachDuxbury, which will provide as much up to date information about space availability at the 3rd crossover throughout the day.

All vehicles at Crossover #3 will be required to be off the beach by 8PM at the latest.

To summarize this trial opening of Crossover #3:

Arrive early and form line in resident parking lot, escorting will begin approximately at 8 AM.

Limit of 44 vehicles – 22 resident, 22 non-resident. Monitor Twitter for up-to-date space availability.

No dogs allowed.

4 WD drive only – NO AWD will be permitted!!!

We strongly suggest “airing down” your vehicles tires.

All vehicles at Crossover #3 must be off the beach by 8 PM at the latest.

TOWN OF DUXBURY BEACH LIFEGUARDS

We are not immune to the lifeguard shortage currently being experienced around the state and country. There will be no lifeguard coverage at the beach – tower located directly east of the Powder Point Bridge, on Friday 7/29 and Saturday 7/30. Coverage will resume on 7/31. Signs will be posted alerting beach goers to this and swimming will be AT YOUR OWN RISK for those days we are unable to provide staffing.

NORTHERN LOT – RESIDENT LOT

The trial opening of crossover #3 will not impact access to the Northern Lot – for non residents. The Northern Lot will be open from 8AM to 9PM.

The Resident lot will also be open from 8 AM to 9PM as well.

Hope to see you at the beach!
