DUXBURY BEACH OPERATIONS

BEACH UPDATE – 6/27/22

Hello Duxbury Beach Patron, I hope this email finds you and your family well. Below are some updates concerning the beach.

PARKING LOT AND BEACH HOURS

At this time the crossovers remain closed. The resident lot is open 8AM- 9PM and the Northern Lot is open 8AM-9PM as well. No dogs are allowed in the Northern Lot. I attach a map of the Northern Lot location. Make sure you park in this lot if you are a non-resident as you will be ticketed if you park in the resident lot.

You will note that the two most northern pathways in the resident lot are blocked off. This is due to the presence of plover broods. Please use access ramp or main pathway to access the front beach.

LIFEGUARDS

For this week there will be no beach lifeguard coverage on Monday and Tuesday. We have hired an additional staff member and are hopeful we can return to a normal schedule by weeks end. Lifeguards will display an “On Duty” sign on their tower when they are working. Lifeguards work a 9-5 shift weather permitting.

LISTED SPECIES UPDATE

The most recent information from DBR today is that we do not anticipate a change in the avian activity at the beach for the next several weeks.  Therefore, at this time the crossovers will remain closed to all over sand vehicles.  When I have more detailed and further information to share, I will do so as soon as possible.

PLOVER CROSSINGS

This is the time of year that plovers cross our property in search of food. They cross the roads from time to time and regulations require that all traffic be stopped until the crossing is complete.

Please adhere to any and all directives from Beach Rangers and bird monitors relative to these crossings.  The employees are simply adhering to the law, and harassment of said employees will not be tolerated.

CONTACTING BEACH OPERATIONS – TWITTER

As many of you know we have a Duxbury Beach Operations – Twitter account. We use this for informational purposes only. The site is not monitored and we don’t respond to or answer questions on that platform.

You can contact Beach Operations several ways. First, you may speak to any Beach Ranger at the beach when you are on property. Beach Rangers are most helpful and if they cannot answer your question, they will contact their supervisor who should be able to assist you.  Secondly, while you are at the beach and if you need assistance, you can call the lead beach ranger cell phone at 1-339-236-4183.

Lastly, you may contact Beach Operations Administrator, Ryan Brown at 781-934-7034. Ryan is currently working a Thursday to Monday shift. You may also send him an email at brown@duxbury-ma.gov,  If you need assistance on Tuesday or Wednesday you can call the Lead Beach Ranger on the phone number provided.

JOB OPENING

The Town of Duxbury is currently accepting applications for the position of Recreation Director. After 38 years with the Town, and the last 33 as Recreation Director, I am retiring soon. You can get further information about this job opening via the Town’s HR Department.

The Town is also hiring Beach Rangers, literally year-round, as we lose employees to college etc.… the HR website can provide you information about that position as well.

Hope to see you at the beach!
