Duxbury Beach Access Update

June 28, 2023

IMPORTANT CROSSOVER UPDATE

Duxbury Beach Reservation has informed us that due to the current avian locations, we are able to open Crossover 3 with limited access.

Starting Friday, June 30th, Crossover 3 will be open to 22 total permitted vehicles: 11 resident permits and 11 non-resident permits from 8 AM – 8 PM.  In addition, the very first cut out on the left (before Crossover 1) and the large cut out before High Pines will also be opened.  Due to State and Federal Regulations, no nighttime driving is allowed after 8 PM on the backroad, cut-outs, and Crossover 3.

The Resident Lot and Non-Resident Northern Lot are open 8 AM- 10 PM.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the unpredictability of the avian activity, the access to Crossover 3 is a day-to-day process that is subject to change in total number of vehicles, up to total closure. Please monitor Twitter for the most up-to-date information.

At this time, Duxbury Beach Reservation has calculated that under the best-case scenario Friday, July 7th will be the last day that Crossover 3 will be open. However, the shutdown date could be sooner based on avian activity.  Crossover 3 allows LEASHED dogs only where vehicles are allowed; all dog rules apply.

CROSSOVER 3 PROCEDURE

Crossover 3 opens at 8 AM. Vehicles MUST line up behind the gate in the Resident Lot. Only permit holders lined up behind the gate in the resident lot will be eligible for Crossover 3 access.  22 permitted cars (11 residents and 11 non-residents) will be escorted down to Crossover 3. The cars must park close to ensure maximum access, please follow the directives from Duxbury Beach Rangers. Once access is full, permitted cars may line up in the small lot behind the guard shack, on a “first come first serve basis” (up to 22 cars).

Please understand: there is no guarantee how long you will be waiting in this line, or if you will gain access based on the “one-off-one-on” policy.

CUT OUT ACCESS

Two Cut-Outs are open: the very first cut out on the left (before Crossover 1) and the large cut out before High Pines. Signage and sawhorses will be posted in those areas indicating if the cut-out is open. All other cut-outs will remain closed. Any vehicle parked in a closed cut-out or along the side of the road are subject to be ticketed.

Crossover 1 and 2 are still closed due to avian locations.  Please note dogs are not allowed in these areas.  Dogs are allowed on the backroad and on Crossover 3.

Any operational update that changes this plan will be posted on Twitter.

We understand that this very limited access is far from ideal. However, in an effort to provide over sand access whenever possible we are doing all we can. Although it may be frustrating if you are not one of the permit holders that gains access, please be respectful to all Rangers and Monitors who are out there working.
