DUXBURY BEACH OPERATIONS – BEACH UPDATE

BEACH UPDATE – 8/5/21

Crossover update

The crossover opening and expansion of area we can allow vehicles to be, is entering into a day-by-day fluid situation. Plover chicks and Least Tern chicks are growing and fledging every day. As I have decided to use these emails to give a weekly update, I won’t communicate daily updates here. Rather, I will use Twitter to provide daily updates about crossover status and number of vehicles allowed into what areas. Keep in mind this will be a gradual process and there will be restricted areas where endangered species may still be located that we MUST avoid.

As of today’s email, crossover #2 is open daily from 8 AM to 8 PM. The area we can allow vehicle access literally expanded this morning! We gained some   linear feet of beach, previously closed as restricted area, helping to get some more vehicles out on the beach.

We currently have space to support up to approximately 100 resident and 100 non-resident vehicles. Please be extra mindful in how you park. The number of vehicles allowed as mentioned above is the MAXIMUM, but we are finding that the actual number is reduced some as it is affected by how vehicles are parked, tidal situations, space for emergency /staff vehicles to travel etc… As I mentioned previously, I believe that the space we have available for over-sand vehicles can and might change daily (hopefully increase) as birds fledge.

Communications Reminder

I just wanted to remind everyone that on top of these weekly (or bi-weekly) informational emails that all dally updates will be provided via our Twitter account. The address is:  @BeachDuxbury. This account is not monitored 24/7 and is used to disseminate daily information in a one-way flow of information. We do not answer questions on this platform.

If you have a question of concern please contact Ryan Brown - Beach Operations Administrator at 781-934-7034 Extension #2. You can also email Mr.  Brown at brown@town.duxbury.ma.us   Please keep in mind that Mr. Brown’s current schedule is Wednesday through Sunday.

Speeding / Treatment of Staff

We continue to have folks traveling too fast on the back road. I will honestly point out that the vast majority of these incidents are not vehicles with Beach Stickers and you all should be thanked for that. Still if we can all work to driving at the posted 15 MPH or 5MPH if noted that will be appreciated.

We do unfortunately have some folks who continue to verbally harass or mistreat our Staff and it needs to stop. We will take all necessary steps to address this behavior including revocation of permits. Please, let’s all be civil and work together to make everyone’s beach experience the best and safest it can be.

Dogs and Fires

A reminder that dogs are NOT allowed leashed, or not, on the front beach directly east of the resident lot. Dogs are allowed in the over sand crossover #2 area as long as they are leashed and stay out of restricted areas. Dogs are allowed in the Northern Lot area, front beach but must be leashed and stay out of restricted areas.

By rule, fires are allowed in the over sand area at crossover #2 but must be fully in a container. Please properly extinguish your fire and exit the front beach by 8PM. Fires are NOT allowed on the front beach east of the resident lot at any time.

Hope to see you at the beach!!
