On Monday, June 8, 2026, pursuant to Section 10.1.6 of the Town of Duxbury General Bylaws, the Duxbury Selectboard met as the Water & Sewer Commissioners for the Town of Duxbury during which a public hearing was held to review the adoption of State-mandated outdoor watering restrictions.  Following the close of the public hearing, the Water & Sewer Commissioners voted to enact the following restrictions, effective June 9, 2026, which will remain in place until such time as the Town’s withdrawal permit allows or until the State deems otherwise.  These restrictions are necessary due to continued drought conditions, and in order to maintain the Town of Duxbury’s water supply for domestic water use and fire protection.

The watering restrictions are as follows:

1.         All nonessential outdoor water uses are banned.

Essential Water Uses:

1. Health and safety, including drinking water, fire protection, public facilities such as swimming pools and splash pads, and washing boats to prevent saltwater damage or prevent transferring invasive aquatic species among lakes and ponds;

1. Growing food, including vegetable gardens;

1. Maintaining livestock;

1. Businesses such as:

1. Plant nurseries;

1. Golf courses to maintain greens and tees, and limited fairway watering;

1. Venues used for weddings and special events that water using hand-held hose or drip irrigation to maintain gardens and ornamentals;

1. Professional washing needed to apply paint, preservatives, stucco, pavement, or cement during construction or renovation work;

2.         Watering public parks and recreation fields before 9:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m.;

3.         Watering shade trees in public spaces;

4.         Watering new lawn as needed to stabilize soil over new construction or following repair or replacement of a Title 5 system;

5.         Watering to prevent negative impacts of saltwater or the transfer of invasive aquatic species for marine equipment;

6.         Persons found in violation of the watering ban shall be fined $50.00 for the first offense and $100.00per day for each additional offense.
