Press Release: Water Ban
Tuesday, May 5, 2026
On Monday, May 4, 2026, pursuant to Section 10.1.6 of the Town of Duxbury General Bylaws, the Duxbury Selectboard met as the Water & Sewer Commissioners for the Town of Duxbury during which a public hearing was held to review the adoption of State-mandated outdoor watering restrictions. Following the close of the public hearing, the Water & Sewer Commissioners voted to enact the following restrictions, effective May 4, 2026, which will remain in place until such time as the Town’s withdrawal permit allows or until the State deems otherwise. These restrictions are necessary due to continued drought conditions, and in order to maintain the Town of Duxbury’s water supply for domestic water use and fire protection. The watering restrictions are as follows:
- All households are restricted to conduct outdoor watering to two (2) days per week:
A. Odd numbered houses shall be restricted to watering on Tuesdays and Thursdays only;
B. Even numbered houses shall be restricted to watering on Mondays and Wednesdays only;
- All outdoor watering shall occur either before the hours of 9:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m.;
- Rain sensors must be installed and used on all irrigation systems.;
- The watering of plants or gardens is permitted as long as it is done so through the use of drip irrigation, watering can(s), or a hose with a hand-held nozzle or sprayer equipped with an automatic shut-off device to stop the water from flowing if the person were to walk away or leave the hose unattended;
- Persons found in violation of the watering ban will be fined $50.00 for the first offense and $100.00 per day for each additional offense.
The full cooperation of Duxbury’s residents is required and appreciated in order to help prevent a total ban on outdoor water use. For more information, please visit the following website:
