This page will host all of the transportation-related projects and programs in the Town of Duxbury, containing original content or links to external projects or sites of importance or interest. Topical areas will include streets and roads, traffic, bicycle and pedestrian facilities or routes, transit, and parking. Current projects include updating the Complete Streets Prioritization Plan, surveying Washington Street for potential future sidewalk projects, design of one segment of Washington Street for a sidewalk, the replacement of the Powder Point Bridge, Traffic Analysis of two Tremont Street intersections, and design/engineering work for the Exit 20 signalization project. These projects will be described in more detail below.

CURRENT PROJECTS 2023

Complete Streets - The Town of Duxbury developed a five-year Complete Streets Prioritization Plan in

2021 and is finishing up a critical update to the Plan in 2023. Complete Streets is a state funded grant program to help municipalities improve their streets to accommodate users of all ages and abilities, whether driving, cycling, or walking.  Each municipality is allowed up to $500,000 through a four year rolling period.  You can view the existing plan and proposed projects on the Complete Streets page here or in the subtab under Transportation Planning in the menu to the left.  The Updated Prioritization Plan and Project List is expected to be approved later in 2023. You can also find information regarding the Washington Street survey and design project on this page.

Transportation Improvement Plan Projects - Presently, Duxbury has three (3) projects on the FY 2023-2027 regional Transportation Improvement Program or TIP. These include the following:

  • SIGNAL INSTALLATION @ ROUTE 3 (NB & SB) RAMPS & ROUTE 3A (TREMONT STREET) (2026)
  • BRIDGE REPLACEMENT, D‐14‐003 (438), POWDER  POINT AVENUE OVER DUXBURY BAY (2027-28)
  • BRIDGE REPLACEMENT, D-14-010 (48H & 48J), ROUTE 3 (PILGRIM HWY), NB/SB OVER FRANKLIN STREET (2023)

Duxbury's Planning Department monitors progress related to these projects to insure they move forward.

Two such audits were completed for Duxbury in 2023:

  • Tremont Street (Route 3A) at Elm Street/Soule Avenue intersection
